Winamp to relaunch with Deezer partnership, new player slated for 2027

Winamp and music‑streaming service Deezer announced a joint effort to revive the iconic Winamp player. The partnership will deliver a premium subscription service that uses Deezer’s global catalog while keeping the Winamp brand, interface and identity.

The new generation Winamp Player is scheduled for launch in the first half of 2027. It will combine streaming, local music libraries, internet radio, podcasts and other audio sources in a single application. Winamp, which still has around 40 million active users worldwide, aims to tap nostalgia and the growing interest in retro technology while offering modern customization and community features.

The initiative reflects a broader trend of reviving legacy software for contemporary markets, positioning Winamp as a hybrid of classic desktop player experience and current streaming capabilities.
