Winbond Electronics plant accident injures four in Kaohsiung

Four workers were injured on the morning of July 2 at the Winbond Electronics Luzhu plant in Kaohsiung's Luzhu Science Park during chemical pipeline construction. The accident occurred when a mixture of hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid, often referred to as ‘bone-dissolving water,’ reportedly sprayed onto the workers.

The injured include three contractors and one Winbond employee. The victims sustained various injuries, including burns to the face, limbs, and torso. All four individuals remained conscious and were transported to E-Da Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital for treatment.

Authorities from the Southern Taiwan Science Park Administration and the Kaohsiung City Labor Bureau have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the chemical spray and assign responsibility.
