Stroke rehabilitation quality varies across Swedish regions

Debates are rising across several Swedish regions regarding the quality and accessibility of stroke rehabilitation. Data from the Riksstroke quality register indicates significant regional disparities in how well patients feel their needs for support and assistance are being met.

In Dalarna, 65 percent of patients reported their needs were met, while in Västernorrland, the figure was 59 percent. In Kalmar County, only 54 percent of patients felt supported. These figures fall below the national average of 63 percent and the Socialstyrelsen target of 75 percent or higher.

In Östergötland, 67 percent of patients reported their needs were met. Advocates are calling on regional politicians to prioritize rehabilitation to ensure that a patient's place of residence does not dictate their chances of recovery and long-term quality of life.
