Wind turbine projects face local opposition in France

Local opposition to wind turbine expansion is growing in several French regions, with residents and officials citing landscape saturation and insufficient democratic consultation.

In Charente Limousine, the village of Le Bouchage is seeing tension over a project by the German company Volkswind. The proposal to install four turbines, reaching heights of 200 meters, has met resistance from a local association. Opponents argue the project lacks adequate consultation, threatens biodiversity, and may exceed noise nuisance thresholds. While the developer has promised acoustic mitigation measures and further biodiversity studies, local concerns remain high.

Similarly, in Côtes-d'Armor, Deputy Corentin Le Fur has criticized a public inquiry regarding two new turbines in Plénée-Jugon as a ‘parody of a public inquiry.’ Despite unfavorable opinions from the municipal councils of Plénée-Jugon, Plestan, and Tramain, an investigating commissioner issued a favorable opinion. Le Fur has called on the Prefect of Côtes-d'Armor to intervene, citing a lack of respect for local democracy and the visual saturation of the environment.
