Windhoek City Guarantees Free Municipal Services for Groot Aub Residents

The City of Windhoek, together with Namibia's Minister of Urban and Rural Development James Sankwasa and the Khomas Regional Council, held a consultative meeting with Groot Aub community members. They confirmed that water, sewerage and solid waste services will continue to be provided at no cost while infrastructure upgrades are carried out.

The municipality highlighted ongoing investments, including a Phase 2 water‑pipeline upgrade that brings total spending in Groot Aub to N$18.4 million, with N$11 million allocated to pipeline materials. With an estimated population of about 20,000, the settlement remains a focus of government efforts to expand service access and improve living conditions. Officials also warned residents against illegal land sales and urged them to obtain proper lease agreements for their properties.
