Windows 11 may delete ASUS GPU drivers in Eco Mode

Windows 11 may automatically uninstall dedicated GPU drivers on certain ASUS gaming laptops when the device is used in Eco Mode for extended periods. This issue specifically affects laptops equipped with a MUX switch, where the NVIDIA GPU is completely powered down to save energy, leaving only the integrated GPU active.

Reports indicate that the Windows component 'pnpclean.dll' identifies the inactive dedicated GPU as a disconnected device and removes its driver package to save disk space. This process typically occurs after 15 to 30 days of inactivity. When users switch back to performance mode, the system may only recognize the graphics card as a 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' rather than using the high-performance NVIDIA driver.

ASUS support documentation suggests this behavior is a standard function for deactivated devices. To prevent automatic removal, users can disable the relevant Disk Cleanup entry, though this will result in older driver packages remaining on the system and consuming storage space.
