Windows 11 stability lags behind Windows 10 in 2026 update review
A review of software patches released between January and September 2026 indicates that Windows 11 has accumulated more documented incidents and stability issues than Windows 10. Despite Microsoft's efforts to transition users and manufacturers to the newer operating system, Windows 11 has faced several critical failures in core functions.
Key issues identified include problems with boot sequences, authentication, BitLocker, audio, Remote Desktop, and file access. For instance, the KB5079473 update in March caused login errors for Microsoft accounts, affecting applications such as Teams, OneDrive, Edge, and Office. In June, the KB5094126 update led to boot failures and BitLocker recovery prompts on certain devices, particularly HP models, due to firmware and EFI partition complications.
Further issues emerged in September involving Remote Desktop, USB audio, and shared folders with Linux virtual machines. While Microsoft has released extraordinary updates like KB5129195 to address these bugs, investigations continue regarding reported problems with File Explorer, File History, and systems utilizing AMD GPUs. Overall, Windows 10 has maintained a more stable experience with fewer and less severe incidents during the same period.
