Windows 11 troubleshooting: fixing Defender and stopping automatic driver updates

Microsoft’s Windows 11 includes built‑in security tools that can sometimes fail. Users experiencing Windows Defender not working can try restarting the Security Center service, installing the latest Windows updates, running an SFC system‑file scan, performing a clean boot, or applying specific registry changes to restore protection.

To prevent problematic driver installations, Windows 11 users can disable automatic driver updates through three methods: adjusting the Device Installation Settings in System Properties, enabling the “Do not include drivers with Windows Updates” policy via the Local Group Policy Editor, or setting the SearchOrderConfig registry value to 0. Drivers can also be rolled back or uninstalled from Device Manager if needed.
