Windows 11 Weather app consumes excessive RAM

The built-in Weather app for Windows 11 is reportedly consuming excessive system resources, with testing showing RAM usage exceeding 1.2 GB, and peaking as high as 1.6 GB during active use. For users with 8 GB of RAM, this can account for nearly 20 percent of available memory, potentially causing system slowdowns and multitasking issues.

Technical analysis indicates the high consumption is due to the app being built on Microsoft’s WebView2 framework rather than being a native application. This architecture essentially runs a web-based version of MSN Weather using the Chromium engine, resulting in up to nine separate sub-processes running simultaneously.

In comparison, Apple’s native Weather app on macOS reportedly uses significantly less memory, approximately 250 MB. Beyond resource consumption, users have also noted the presence of integrated advertisements within the Windows 11 Weather interface.
