Windows Memory Diagnostic tool helps identify RAM issues

Windows includes a built-in tool called Windows Memory Diagnostic to help users identify hardware issues related to RAM. Faulty memory can lead to significant performance problems, application crashes, unexpected restarts, and the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD).

The tool works by writing data to the RAM and then reading it back to ensure the information remains intact. If there is a discrepancy between the written and read data, it indicates a potential hardware failure. To run the diagnostic, users can search for it in the Start menu or use the command 'mdsched.exe' via the Windows + R shortcut.

Because the tool requires the computer to restart to run outside the standard Windows environment, users are advised to save all work before beginning. While the tool is effective at detecting errors, finding the final results can sometimes be less intuitive for users.
