Windows network configuration guide for DNS and IP settings
Users of Windows 11 and Windows 10 can manage their network configurations by manually adjusting DNS and IP settings.
To change DNS settings on Windows 11, users can navigate to Settings, select Network & internet, and choose their specific Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. From there, the DNS server assignment can be edited to switch from Automatic (DHCP) to Manual, allowing for the entry of preferred and alternate DNS addresses. This method also supports DNS over HTTPS on Windows 11.
Additionally, Windows 11 allows users to revert from a static IP configuration back to a dynamic one using DHCP. This can be accomplished through the Settings menu, Control Panel, Command Prompt, or PowerShell. Switching to DHCP allows the router or a DHCP server to automatically assign network settings, which is useful when a permanent IP address is no longer required for services like file sharing or printing.
