Windward Offshore names third hybrid CSOV, Windward Munich
Windward Offshore has officially named its third hybrid Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV), the Windward Munich, during a ceremony in Hamburg. The vessel is part of a series of hybrid ships designed to support the offshore wind industry.
Built by Vard in Vietnam, the Windward Munich features a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system with four methanol-ready engines and a battery pack. It is designed for optimized seakeeping and low fuel consumption. Notably, it is the first of two vessels in the fleet to include a helicopter landing deck. The ship is equipped with advanced technical features, including a motion-compensated gangway with an elevator, 3D motion-compensated cranes, and a height-adjustable boat landing system.
The Windward Munich follows the Windward Athens, delivered in late 2025, and the Windward Paris, delivered in early 2026. With the recent delivery of the Windward Hamburg in August, Windward Offshore has successfully taken delivery of four CSOVs within a twelve-month period.
