Wine and Proton release updates to improve Linux gaming compatibility
The open-source compatibility layer Wine has released version 11.16, which introduces support for VA-API hardware video decoding. The update also includes Wine Mono 11.3, which features its first implementation of ARM64 support to improve compatibility for Windows applications on ARM-based architectures. Additionally, the update addresses 35 bugs, including fixes for Steam launch failures and issues affecting WineWayland.
Concurrently, Valve has released Proton 11.0-2, an update to its compatibility layer for running Windows games on Linux via Steam. This release focuses on resolving regressions from previous Proton 11 updates and fixing compatibility issues for several major titles. Notable fixes include restoring playability to Diablo IV, Helldivers 2, and Marvel Rivals following recent game updates. It also addresses black screen issues in the Forza Horizon series and improves performance for Terraria.
