Wine professionals highlight regional diversity and female leadership in Spain
Oenologist Sara Pérez recently hosted a tasting at the Vinseum wine museum in Vilafranca del Penedès, where she showcased four female winemakers: Isa Serra, Anna Martín, Marta Nieto, and Júlia Faura. Pérez noted that these women are bringing a transformative perspective and unique sensitivity to the industry, often overcoming traditional paternalism to establish their own voices in regions such as Priorat, Terra Alta, Penedès, and Berguedà.
In Valdepeñas, the Asociación Jóvenes Amigos del Vino organized a tasting titled “Una uva, diez nombres” (One grape, ten names) to explore the diversity of the Cencibel grape. Led by sommelier Félix J. Delgado, the event paired various Cencibel wines from regions including Valdepeñas, Rioja, La Mancha, Toro, and Penedès with different types of chocolate to highlight the grape's geographic nuances.
