Wine tasting equipment and preservation technologies
Effective wine tasting relies heavily on specialized equipment to minimize variables such as temperature, oxidation, and container shape. The geometry of glassware, such as the INAO standard glass, is critical as it dictates how aromas are perceived by altering the surface contact between the wine and air.
Newer technological solutions are emerging to change traditional tasting methods. French companies are offering small samples (2 to 10 cl) preserved under an inert atmosphere with dissolved oxygen maintained below 5 ppm. This method preserves organoleptic qualities for several months, allowing for comparative tastings without opening full bottles. According to Vinovae, using these small formats can significantly reduce shipping costs and decrease the carbon footprint by up to 50 times compared to standard glass bottles.
