Wine writer Matthew Jukes passes away at 58
Influential British wine writer and journalist Matthew Jukes has passed away at the age of 58. He reportedly died suddenly on Thursday, August 6, while on holiday with his family in Portugal.
Jukes had a multifaceted career in the wine industry, beginning in 1987 at London's Barnes Wine Shop. He later served as the wine buyer for Bibendum Restaurant & Oyster Bar from 1990 to 2016 and operated his own wine bar, The Crescent.
As a journalist, Jukes wrote a long-running column for the Daily Mail for over 22 years, reaching a vast audience, and held various roles with the BBC, Money Week, and Vineyard Magazine. He was widely recognized for his advocacy of Australian wines and launched Jukes Cordialities, a range of alcohol-free wine alternatives.
