Winegrowers in Germany and Austria report mixed harvests

Winegrowers in Germany and Austria are reporting mixed harvest results following periods of drought and varying precipitation levels.

At Deutsches Weintor eG in Germany, officials noted a “neidischer Herbst” (envious autumn), where harvest volumes vary significantly depending on soil quality and moisture retention. Despite these fluctuations in quantity, the quality of the grapes is reported to be very healthy, providing a strong foundation for the upcoming vintage.

In Lower Austria, Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner addressed the economic importance of viticulture during the “Vino & Vision” event. She acknowledged that while the previous summer's drought heavily impacted agricultural businesses and led to lower yields, winemakers remain optimistic. Mikl-Leitner emphasized the need to reduce bureaucracy and taxes to support the industry's economic strength and job security.
