United States voter registration deadlines approach for November elections

As the November 3, 2026, general election approaches, various U.S. states are issuing critical voter registration and voting deadlines.

In Texas, officials noted that an error by the Department of Public Safety delayed a significant number of online registration applications. While the error occurred, the Secretary of State’s office indicated that voters who submitted applications before the October 5 deadline should still have their ballots counted.

Other regional deadlines include:

• Maryland: The registration deadline is October 13. Voters can also utilize same-day registration during early voting or on Election Day. • Kansas: The registration deadline is October 13. • Indiana: The deadline to register or update information is October 5. • South Carolina (Laurens County): In-person registration ends October 2, while online registration is available through October 4. • Iowa (Winnebago County): The deadline to register and be listed in Election Day registers is October 19.

Early voting periods and mail-in ballot request deadlines vary by jurisdiction. For example, Maryland allows mail-in voting without a specified reason, while Louisiana is preparing for early voting to begin on October 20.
