Winnipeg apartment building damaged by reported explosion

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is investigating an explosion at a two-storey apartment building in the 300 block of Clare Avenue in Winnipeg’s South Osborne neighbourhood. The incident occurred just before noon on Wednesday, resulting in damage to the building and the evacuation of residents as a precaution.

While WFPS stated that preliminary investigations suggest the explosion was accidental and potentially caused by human activity, some local residents have disputed the claim. Neighbors reported that they did not hear a loud blast, with one resident suggesting the damage might have been caused by water pressure buckling a window rather than an explosion.

One person was assessed by paramedics at the scene but did not require hospital treatment, and no other major injuries were reported. The City of Winnipeg’s emergency social services team is providing support to displaced residents. Fire crews found no additional hazards or fires following their search of the building.
