Winnipeg’s newly elected city council officially took office following an inaugural meeting at city hall on Tuesday. Mayor Scott Gillingham, who was re-elected to a second term, will lead a council consisting of 15 members, including nine new councillors and six incumbents.
Kelly Ryback, the representative for St. James, will serve as the presiding officer. During the swearing-in ceremony, all elected officials took the Declaration of Office, pledging to represent residents fairly and to avoid corruption or bribery.
Mayor Gillingham emphasized the need for hard work and collaboration to achieve lasting change. The council’s upcoming agenda includes initiatives to develop the downtown area to attract businesses, investments, and new residents, as well as addressing transit improvements based on rider feedback.
