Winnipeg Jets suspend Connor Hellebuyck following trade request

Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been suspended by the team after failing to report to training camp. The former Vezina Trophy winner has requested a trade, reportedly citing a desire to no longer live or play in Canada.

Teammates have expressed significant distress over the situation. Jets forward Kyle Connor described the news as ‘heartbreaking’ for the group, noting the difficulty of seeing a long-time teammate turn his back on the franchise.

While several teams have been linked to Hellebuyck, including the Ottawa Senators, potential destinations for the goaltender include the Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, Florida Panthers, or Carolina Hurricanes. Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has indicated the team will not accept low-value trade offers, suggesting a resolution could take weeks or months. The holdout creates immediate challenges for the Jets' roster and fantasy hockey managers, as the absence is not injury-related and does not qualify for an IR slot.
