Winnipeg Jets suspend goaltender Connor Hellebuyck

The Winnipeg Jets have suspended star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck for failing to report to training camp. The disciplinary action follows Hellebuyck’s public request for a trade, which he stated he had initially made privately several months ago to allow the organization to resolve the matter “quietly and respectfully.”

Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff addressed the situation, noting that the team is seeking a “resolution that works for both sides.” Cheveldayoff denied rumors of a “gentleman’s agreement” regarding a trade and emphasized that a contract is a contract. While the suspension is procedural, it means Hellebuyck will not receive pay or count against the salary cap while the holdout continues.

As the team prepares for the upcoming season, they have already signed Stuart Skinner to a two-year deal, signaling readiness for life without the three-time Vezina Trophy winner. Hellebuyck, who has played his entire 11-season career in Winnipeg, remains under contract for five more years with an average annual value of $8.5 million.
