Winnipeg police recover stolen charity cycling bicycles

Winnipeg police have arrested two suspects and recovered one of two high-end bicycles stolen during a charity cross-country cycling trek. The theft occurred on July 24, 2026, in downtown Winnipeg while cyclists Val Duquenne and Thomas Clark were conducting a media interview regarding their journey to raise funds and awareness for men’s mental health.

The stolen bicycles were valued at approximately $15,000. On August 7, authorities located one of the bikes being ridden by a 60-year-old man, who was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

On August 23, police arrested 42-year-old Kuol Thomas Madit. He faces multiple charges, including theft over $5,000, trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of fentanyl. The second stolen bicycle remains missing. Despite the theft, Duquenne and Clark completed their 51-day relay journey from Nova Scotia to British Columbia earlier this month.
