Winnipeg to host 2026 NHL Heritage Classic
The 2026 NHL Heritage Classic is scheduled to take place at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg, featuring a matchup between the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets. Over 30,000 fans are expected to attend the outdoor event.
NHL Vice President of Facilities and Hockey Operations Derek King stated that preparations are ahead of schedule. While weather forecasts indicate fluctuating temperatures and a chance of showers, King expressed confidence in the league's ability to adapt to conditions. To prepare for potential rain, officials noted they can freeze surfaces as needed.
Technical preparations include the use of powder paint for white markings and textile fabrics for logos and hockey lines to better suit outdoor conditions. The event marks the eighth Heritage Classic and the second to be hosted in Winnipeg.
