Winnipeg to receive $35M in federal infrastructure funding

The Canadian federal government has announced over $35 million in funding for two major infrastructure projects in Winnipeg.

More than $27 million will support the Rutland Trunk Sewer Project at Bourkevale Park. This initiative aims to improve stormwater drainage and reduce sewage overflow into the Assiniboine River by constructing a roughly two-kilometre trunk land drainage sewer using micro tunnelling.

Additionally, the federal government is committing approximately $8.1 million toward the redevelopment of the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg’s Downtown Y on Vaughan Street. The project will modernize the historic 1913 facility, including upgrades to elevators, aquatics, fitness areas, and energy systems. The redevelopment also seeks to expand community programming, specifically focusing on newcomer support and mental health services. The YMCA-YWCA is contributing $3.5 million toward the project, which has an original fundraising goal of $18 million.
