Winnipeg vacant house facing demolition after second fire

A vacant house on Argyle Street in Winnipeg’s Point Douglas neighbourhood is scheduled for emergency demolition following a major fire on Thursday morning, August 20, 2026. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to the blaze shortly after 6:00 a.m., encountering heavy smoke and flames that prevented crews from entering the structure. Firefighters utilized an aerial ladder to direct water onto the building from the outside, eventually bringing the fire under control by approximately 9:30 a.m.

The building sustained severe fire, smoke, and water damage. This incident marks the second time the property has been damaged by fire since June 2026. Due to concerns regarding the structural stability of the building and the need to extinguish remaining hotspots, the WFPS is arranging for its demolition. One firefighter was assessed by paramedics at the scene, but no other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
