Winona Ryder reflects on career milestones and past regrets
American actress Winona Ryder, known for her breakout role in the 1988 film ‘Beetlejuice’, has reflected on certain aspects of her early career. In a 1991 interview with Movieline, Ryder expressed regret regarding her participation in the 1988 drama ‘1969’, directed by Ernest Thompson.
Ryder, who played Beth Carr in the film, stated that she accepted the role because she was sixteen years old, bored, and simply wanted to work, rather than for career advancement. She described the decision as ‘a big mistake’. The film, which featured Robert Downey Jr. and Kiefer Sutherland, explored social divisions during the Vietnam War but failed to achieve commercial success, earning approximately 5.98 million dollars against a 7 million dollar budget.
