Świnoujście: Divers to neutralize WWII British sea mines

Divers from the 12th Minesweeper Squadron of the 8th Coastal Defense Flotilla are scheduled to neutralize five British aerial sea mines from World War II near Świnoujście, Poland. The operation is set to take place from October 5 to October 8, between 08:00 and 15:00.

The mines, identified as Mark IV, V, and VI types, were discovered during construction work for a new breakwater for the external port, commissioned by the Maritime Office. Each mine is approximately 3 meters long and located at a depth of about 10 meters, roughly 1 kilometer from the LNG Terminal breakwater. The five objects contain a combined explosive payload equivalent to approximately 2,500 kg of TNT.

Due to the operation, safety zones will be established in the Pomeranian Bay, spanning the coastline from Ahlbeck through Świnoujście to Międzyzdroje. A strict ban on entering the water will be in effect within these zones during working hours. Additionally, a maritime safety zone will be implemented for vessel traffic within an 821-meter radius of the neutralization site.
