Świnoujście explores electric carriages as horse-drawn transport phase-out continues

An entrepreneur has presented electric vehicles designed to resemble traditional horse-drawn carriages in Świnoujście. These vehicles aim to maintain the elegant aesthetic of classic carriages while utilizing modern electric propulsion, offering a potential alternative to traditional horse-drawn transport.

The city of Świnoujście has been discussing the future of horse-drawn carriages, with decisions made between city officials, social stakeholders, and carriage drivers to gradually phase out the practice. While new permits will not be issued, the transition is intended to be a gradual process rather than an immediate removal of horses from tourist streets.

Despite the potential to preserve a key tourist attraction without using animals, several obstacles remain. The primary challenges include the high cost of these specialized electric constructions compared to standard electric vehicles, as well as legal complexities regarding registration and classification within Poland. Consequently, many of these electric carriages are currently being exported to foreign markets.
