Winschoten celebrates 50th anniversary of RUN race

The 50th edition of the RUN Winschoten is set to take place in the Netherlands, marking a major milestone for the event. Originally established in 1976 as a one-time protest run to advocate for an athletics track for the AV Aquilo club, the race has grown into a significant long-distance running event.

Activities include the Lutje RUN for children on Friday, September 11, followed by the main event on Saturday, September 12. The program features various distances, including 5 km, a marathon, 50 km, and 100 km races, as well as a 10x10 km relay which has become one of the largest participant groups. The event attracts both domestic and international runners.

To celebrate the anniversary, an exhibition featuring historical items such as old clothing and shoes is being held at De Klinker. The community is expected to participate actively, with residents decorating streets to support the runners.
