Winter sports updates: Skiri Trophy and Sölden World Cup expansions

The 43rd edition of the Skiri Trophy XCountry youth cross-country skiing competition is scheduled for January 23-24, 2027, at the Lago di Tesero Cross-Country Stadium in Val di Fiemme. Six nations have already registered for the event: Bulgaria, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and newcomer Finland. Organizers noted a growing collaboration with Scandinavian countries, with Norway potentially joining in the future.

In alpine skiing, organizers in Sölden, Austria, are exploring plans to expand the 2026-27 World Cup season opener. While the season traditionally begins with giant slalom races in late October, officials are discussing the addition of a Super-G to the program. The long-term goal for the Bergbahnen Sölden management is to establish a full week of World Cup racing in the location, potentially including slalom events to provide more high-speed autumn competition before the North American circuit.
