Winter tire change guidelines and regulations in Poland and Czechia
Drivers are advised to switch to winter tires when the average daily temperature consistently falls below 7°C. At these temperatures, summer tire rubber hardens, leading to reduced grip and control. Winter tires utilize a softer compound and specialized tread patterns to maintain flexibility and traction on wet, cold, or snowy surfaces.
In Poland, there is currently no legal mandate to use winter tires, though drivers remain responsible for vehicle technical condition and adapting to road conditions. Experts recommend replacing winter tires once the tread depth falls below 4 mm to ensure safety on snow and slush. Spiked tires are prohibited on public roads in Poland.
In contrast, the Czech Republic mandates the use of winter tires from November 1 to March 31 when roads are covered in snow, ice, or frost. Drivers traveling between Poland and Czechia should be aware of these differing regional requirements.
