Europe prepares for 2026 Christmas market season

European Christmas markets are set to begin opening on November 6, 2026. Vienna will be among the first major destinations to launch its festive season, with 15 approved markets including locations at Schönbrunn Palace and Stephansplatz.

Other destinations across Germany, the Czech Republic, Estonia, and France are also preparing for seasonal openings. In Germany, specific events include the Romantic Christmas Market at Schloss Thurn und Taxis in Regensburg and the Advent im Schloss event in Taufkirchen (Vils).

Travelers planning seasonal trips are also monitoring safety and destination trends. According to the Global Guardian Risk Map, countries such as Iceland, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, and Slovenia are categorized as the safest destinations, while countries like Germany, France, and Spain are noted as having moderate risk due to factors such as strikes and crime.
