Winter weather increases risks of dry lips and dandruff
Winter weather conditions, including low humidity, wind, and cold temperatures, can lead to increased skin and scalp issues. The lack of sebaceous glands in the lips makes them particularly vulnerable to dehydration, scaling, and cracking during the colder months.
To prevent lip dryness, experts recommend maintaining high water intake, avoiding the habit of wetting lips with saliva, and using specific lip repair products to create a protective barrier.
Additionally, winter can exacerbate dandruff, or seborrheic dermatitis, caused by the Malassezia fungus. Factors such as dry air, prolonged hot showers, and the use of hats or heaters can disrupt the scalp's microbiota. Effective management often requires continuous treatment with antifungal shampoos containing ingredients like cyclopirox olamine or piroctone olamine to address itching and redness.
