Wintering Well kits for seasonal affective disorder launched in UK libraries

Libraries across the United Kingdom are rolling out ‘Wintering Well’ boxes to assist individuals suffering from seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Following successful two-year trials in Scotland, the initiative is expanding to include 16 public library services across Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The kits include a therapeutic light lamp designed to mimic outdoor sunlight, a guidebook offering tips for indoor and outdoor activities to establish healthy winter routines, and access to a free online course. The project was developed by researchers from the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh in consultation with individuals experiencing SAD symptoms.

In Wales, the boxes will be available in several locations, including Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, Neath-Port Talbot, Blaenau-Gwent, Merthyr Tydfil, Powys, Conwy, Newport, Vale of Glamorgan, and Caerphilly. A total of 600 boxes are being distributed this year.
