Cold fronts bring frost and temperature drops to UK and US
A significant cold front is bringing sharp temperature drops and wintry conditions across parts of the United Kingdom and the United States.
In the UK, temperatures are expected to fall below seasonal averages, with grass frost reported in northern areas and chilly northerly winds in the east. Clear skies and high pressure are contributing to low single-digit temperatures in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
In the US, an Arctic surge is expected to cause temperatures to plunge by more than 30 degrees in the Northeast, Midwest, and Great Lakes regions. The National Weather Service has issued widespread freeze warnings across the Dakotas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, and several other states, warning that frost could damage crops and outdoor plumbing. Some areas, including parts of New York and New England, may experience the season’s first snow as Canadian air meets warmer moisture over the Great Lakes.
