Wireless adapters enable cable-free CarPlay and Android Auto

New wireless adapters are entering the market to convert wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems into wireless interfaces. These compact USB dongles plug directly into a vehicle's USB port, allowing smartphones to connect automatically via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi upon starting the vehicle.

Twelve South has released the AirFly Drive, a device that supports up to two saved smartphones with easy switching. It draws power directly from the car's USB port and does not require an internal battery or a dedicated app. Similarly, CODONOVA offers a miniature adapter designed to remain plugged into the USB port without occupying significant cabin space.

Both solutions require the vehicle to already support CarPlay or Android Auto via a physical cable connection. These devices facilitate hands-free use of navigation, media playback, and messaging without the need to physically connect a phone during every trip.
