Wisconsin Badgers defense focuses on takeaways and consistency

Wisconsin Badgers defensive coordinator Mike Tressel is focusing on increasing takeaways and defensive consistency during fall camp. Following a season where the defense finished last nationally in takeaways with only six, Tressel has implemented an emphasis on ‘opportunity awareness,’ moving beyond mere recognition of plays to actively attacking the football.

Tressel noted that the team is already seeing an increase in turnovers during practice compared to last year. The defense is also looking to build on the performance of its young core, specifically linebacker duo Mason Posa and Cooper Catalano. While the unit showed promise in previous campaigns, Tressel has emphasized the need for the group to be ‘consistently good, not occasionally great’ as they prepare for upcoming seasons.
