Wisconsin's Minocqua Brewing Co. loses license over illegal beer transport

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue announced that Minocqua Brewing Company’s brewing permit will be revoked effective August 4, 2024. The revocation stems from the brewery’s transportation of canned beer from Illinois without the required permits or tax payments. The company, which operates two taprooms in Wisconsin, is owned by left‑wing activist Kirk Bangstad.

In January 2024 the brewery posted on Facebook that it would give away free beer all day if U.S. President Donald Trump died, a promotion later cited after a failed assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Bangstad has vowed to fight the revocation, urging customers to contribute to a legal‑defence fund. State agents seized roughly $25,000 worth of canned beer from the brewery’s locations in June 2024.
