Wisconsin Democrats target Republican seats in upcoming elections

Democrats are targeting key legislative and congressional races in Wisconsin as they seek to flip control of the state Assembly and unseat long-term Republican incumbents. In the state Assembly, Republicans currently hold a 54-seat majority in the 99-seat body. To take control, Democrats must retain all current seats and gain at least five more.

In congressional races, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has added Wisconsin’s 1st District to its ‘red to blue’ program, targeting Republican Representative Bryan Steil. Challenger Mitchell Berman is attempting to capitalize on voter dissatisfaction regarding the economy, healthcare costs, and gas prices.

Polling indicates a shifting political landscape. A Marquette Law School poll found Donald Trump’s approval in Wisconsin at 37%, while 46% of voters stated they would vote for Democrats in legislative races compared to 42% for Republicans. Some Republican candidates in competitive districts are reportedly distancing themselves from national leadership to appeal to moderate voters.
