Wisconsin Hospitals Lead Nation in CMS Quality Star Ratings
In the latest CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings, 86 Wisconsin hospitals received a rating, the highest number ever for the state and 19 more than the previous year. Sixty‑five percent of the state's hospitals earned four‑ or five‑star ratings, well above the national average of 42%, placing Wisconsin fourth among all states and first among those with 50 or more hospitals.
WHA President and CEO Kyle O’Brien said the results “reflect the dedication of hospital teams … improving outcomes, strengthening patient experience and serving as trusted anchors in their communities.” Additional recognitions came from Healthgrades for patient experience and from the Chartis Center for Rural Health, which placed several Wisconsin facilities on its Top 100 and Top 20 lists.
The strong performance underscores the state's focus on high‑quality, patient‑centered care and its impact on families, employers, and the regional economy.
