Wisconsin Republicans urge action on military vehicle backlog

A delegation of Wisconsin Republicans, led by Representative Glenn Grothman and including Senator Ron Johnson, has sent a letter to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth regarding a significant backlog in military vehicle production.

Congressional committee reports indicate that the program outlined in the Fiscal Year 2027 Defense Appropriations Act is more than 20 months behind schedule, with 2,000 vehicles currently overdue. These production challenges are specifically affecting the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) 2 program and the Marine Corps’ ability to field necessary equipment for operations.

The delegation emphasized the importance of maintaining competition and production capacity to protect military readiness and ensure contractor accountability. They identified Oshkosh Defense as having the necessary workforce and manufacturing capability to address the backlog and strengthen the industrial base for tactical wheeled vehicle production.
