Wisconsin sports betting market awaits tribal agreements

Wisconsin is moving toward legalizing online sports betting following Governor Tony Evers' signing of Act 247. While the state is the 33rd to legalize the practice, a functional market is not yet available to residents.

The implementation of the law depends on the negotiation of amended gaming compacts with Wisconsin’s 11 federally recognized tribes. Under the proposed model, mobile wagers placed within the state must be processed through servers located on tribal land. These agreements require both tribal negotiation and federal approval before statewide wagering can officially launch.
