Wisconsin to receive 42 EV charging stations after legal battle

Wisconsin will receive 42 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations following a legal battle to restore federal funding. A federal judge unlocked the funds after Wisconsin and 15 other states sued the Trump administration, which had previously frozen the program.

The $25 million in grants is part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program established by the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Governor Tony Evers announced that the new stations will be located at gas stations, hotels, and grocery stores near major interstates, spanning from Hayward to Racine.

To date, 25 charging stations have become operational in the state, and the Evers administration reports that a total of 120 fast chargers have received funding through this federal program. State DOT Secretary Kristina Boardman noted that the stations are designed to provide fast charging at convenient locations to support local businesses.
