Wisconsin voters to decide on three constitutional amendments

Wisconsin voters will decide on three Republican-led constitutional amendments during the November 3 election. These referendums address the governor's veto authority, religious gatherings, and discrimination laws.

The first proposal seeks to prohibit the governor from using partial veto power to create or increase any tax or fee. This measure follows disputes over Governor Tony Evers' use of the veto to modify budget timelines, a practice previously upheld by the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

The second amendment would prevent state or local governments from ordering the closure of places of worship during a declared state of emergency, a debate intensified by COVID-19 lockdowns.

The third question proposes a ban on affirmative action, prohibiting state and local governments, as well as public education institutions, from providing preferential treatment or discriminating based on race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in government jobs, contracts, or education.
