WIT Studio announces ‘The One Piece’ anime reboot

WIT Studio is developing a new anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga series, ‘The One Piece’. WIT Studio President George Wada clarified in an interview that the project is intended as a reboot rather than a traditional remake.

Unlike the long-running Toei Animation series that began in 1999, this new production aims to align more closely with the original manga. Wada noted that because the creators now understand the full scope of the story’s long-term character development and plot arcs, they can better weight early details and connections that were unknown when the original anime began.

Meanwhile, recent developments in the manga, specifically chapter 1,190, continue to explore the narrative connections between protagonist Monkey D. Luffy and the historical figure Joyboy. The chapter features a dialogue between Imu and Scopper Gaban, touching upon the legacy of the Pirate King Gol D. Roger and the significance of the words spoken by Joyboy 800 years ago.
