Witer Naves proposes water security focus for Tocantins

Witer Naves, a candidate for the government of Tocantins, has placed water security at the center of his political platform. His proposal emphasizes the integration of Cerrado protection, sanitation, water management, and long-term planning to address climate change impacts.

A key component of the plan is the creation of the Tocantins Institute of Water, Sanitation, and Climate Change. This body would be responsible for integrating policies regarding water resource management and sanitation. Additionally, the proposal seeks to strengthen watershed management, improve the licensing system, and implement actions to recover springs and riparian forests.

Naves argues that water security is inseparable from the preservation of the Cerrado biome. He intends to ensure that decisions regarding infrastructure, production, and territorial occupation account for long-term water availability, particularly in regions within the Matopiba dynamic and areas related to the Urucuia Aquifer.
