Witness presents covert recording devices in Besigye court case

In a Ugandan High Court proceeding related to allegations of a plot to overthrow the government, witness Andrew Wilson, a British-American national, testified regarding the use of covert recording devices to monitor veteran opposition politician Dr. Kizza Besigye and his associate Joel Wakayima.

Wilson presented various consumer-grade gadgets disguised as everyday items to the court. These included power banks, watches, a wall USB charger, a necklace, and an audio device placed on a radiator. He testified that these tools were used to capture audio and visual information during meetings held in Geneva, Switzerland; Athens, Greece; and Nairobi, Kenya.

Law enforcement officers formally handed over the hardware units to the court, marking a procedural step in the judicial process. The evidence includes modified devices intended to record conversations without attracting attention, such as a watch worn by an associate during a meeting in Athens.
