Świętokrzyskie officials protest potential loss of EU funds

Law and Justice (PiS) officials in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship are protesting a potential reduction in EU funding for the region under the 2028-2034 financial perspective. The protest follows statements attributed to Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, regarding the planned liquidation of the ‘Polska Wschodnia’ (Eastern Poland) program.

According to Anna Krupka, head of PiS structures in Świętokrzyskie, the proposed replacement instrument would focus on border provinces in eastern Poland, excluding Świętokrzyskie. This shift could result in the region receiving approximately 1.33 billion euros, which represents a decrease of roughly 550 million PLN compared to previous funding levels.

PiS representatives have called on Prime Minister Donald Tusk to ensure equal treatment for all citizens and have pledged to pressure the government to negotiate better financial terms. Regional councilors are expected to review an appeal to the government during a session scheduled for September 28.
