Witten apprenticeship market shifts as available positions decline

In Witten, Germany, the apprenticeship market is experiencing a shift despite a weakening economy. While the number of available training positions has decreased compared to the previous year, interest among young applicants remains high.

Data from the Employment Agency for Witten, Wetter, and Herdecke shows that approximately 1,000 young people registered interest in apprenticeships between October and July. However, local companies reported only about 700 available positions during the same period, which is roughly 50 fewer than the previous year. As of August, 280 positions remain unfilled.

Katja Heck, managing director of the Hagen Employment Agency, noted that the selection process for applicants is becoming more competitive. Andrea Koch of the IHK Mittleres Ruhrgebiet observed that the market is shifting back toward being an employer-driven market, as the number of available spots declines while applicant interest grows.
